Olympique Lyon will kickstart their 2009/10 Champions League campaign in Group E when they face Fiorentina on Wednesday 16th September night. The club ranked 3rd in Ligue 1 last season, which did not go down very well with their fans, as the club previously won the top French league 7 times in a row between 2002 and 2008. Lyon will be hoping to return to the top position and take back the Cup off current Champions Bordeaux. In their Champions League Group, they will also have to face Liverpool and Debreceni VSC.
This will be the third shirt that the team will use for away encounters in the UEFA Champions League and domestically when needed. The European shirt of OL has a dark blue colour, with a long polo-style collar. The shirt manufacturers are English-based Nike-subsidiary Umbro, and they have the trademark diamond shaped design on the sleeves. Betclic are the shirt sponsors are just like Umbro, their logo is white. The body of the shirts alternates horizontally between a darker stripe of blue and a lighter blue stripe. Just below the sponsor logo, there is a horizontal red stripe, and below it a blue one. These two colours are associated with the club, featuring on the club crest.
